Texas votes on math next week as district reviews pass ninety

The State Board of Education takes up the math approval list on October 14. Large districts now have 91 reviews open, 32 of them in math, and three approval decisions fall before Thanksgiving

1The next eight weeks

Seven state and district events fall between now and the end of November. The Texas math vote and the Florida science bid window matter most for publishers, because both set which programs districts in those states can buy with state funds for the next cycle.1

2State cycles by subject

Five adoption states have a cycle in progress. Texas is furthest along. California's science cycle is still at reviewer training, so district buying there is unlikely before the 2027/28 school year.

3District reviews

We track 140 large districts. They had 91 reviews open this week, against 58 in mid July, as committees formed after the start of the school year. Board decisions have also picked up, to 15 this week.2

5What to watch next week

The Texas vote on October 14 and any programs added or removed from the floor, questions filed against the Florida science specifications, and whether the large Texas district extends its reading pilot past October 21.

How this watch is built

  • A state cycle is tracked from the first public notice to the final approved list, using the firm's stage definitions
  • A district review opens when a board agenda or posted notice names a committee or sample review for a subject
  • Every date and count traces to an agenda, notice, approved list or minutes held on file for subscribers who ask

Approved for subscribersMarcus ElleryDirector of K12 Research · October 9, 2026

1 Dates are as posted by each state board or district on October 8 and can move; we update them in the next issue.

2 Large districts are those with more than 25,000 students in the adoption states we cover. A board decision is a recorded vote to adopt, defer or reject.
