Bureaus add metal capacity faster than they qualify it
Tracked bureaus installed 214 industrial machines in the third quarter, 61 of them metal powder bed systems. Ten new aerospace qualifications trail the metal build out
1Machines installed
The 420 bureaus we track installed 214 industrial machines between July and September, 23 more than in the third quarter of 2025. Metal powder bed fusion accounted for 13 of the 23, and vat photopolymerization was the only technology to decline.1

2Where capacity landed
North America took the most machines, 82, with four new facilities, three of them near defense prime contractors. European bureaus added 79 machines, mostly to existing sites.

| North America | 140 | 82 | 4 |
| Europe | 165 | 79 | 3 |
| Asia Pacific | 95 | 41 | 2 |

3Qualifications and acquisitions
Bureaus gained 18 qualifications in the quarter. Ten were aerospace, six AS9100 certifications and four Nadcap additive accreditations, which leaves much of the new metal capacity unable to bid for flight hardware until it is qualified.2

4Against our Additive Shipments Model
5What to watch in the fourth quarter
Nadcap audits scheduled at bureaus that added metal capacity this year, year end equipment orders ahead of expected price increases in January, and whether the PE owned bureau platform completes the second acquisition it announced in September.
How this tracker is built
- A machine is counted when a bureau or equipment maker announces it installed, not when it is ordered
- The same 420 bureaus are tracked every quarter and reconciled to the Additive Shipments Model by technology
- Every machine, qualification and deal links to its dated source, held on file for subscribers who ask
