Start here

New to Axe? Run your first Task, check its sources, edit the result and turn repeat work into an Agent, with examples of every screen.

Axe does research work for you and shows where every answer came from. You give it a question, your files and your method. It researches, writes and checks, then hands you a result you can verify in one click.

This page walks you through your first session. Each example below is the real product showing example data, so you can click around it.

Where things are

The bar at the top of Axe has three places:

Place	What it is for
Assistant	Your Tasks. Ask for work, attach files and read results
Agents	Recurring work you have taught Axe, and each Agent's runs
Account	Security, members, billing and data controls

Before you start: credits

Axe charges credits for the work it does. Reading results and downloading files never uses them. Your balance, the rate card and your credit history are in Account, under Billing.

A request starts only when your balance covers its credit ceiling, the most that one request can use. If you signed up yourself, you are your organisation's owner, and you can choose a plan in Billing. Eligible new accounts receive 5,000 credits for a 14 day trial with a card on file. Your selected monthly plan starts when the trial ends unless you cancel first. Using all trial credits does not start billing early.

1. Give Axe your first task

Open Assistant to start a Task. New task at the top starts another one at any time.

Type what you need in the message box, the way you would brief a colleague: the question, the scope and the form you want the answer in. Attach files with the + button beside the message box, or drop them anywhere on the page. Axe reads what you attach and searches the web when the question needs it.

Here is a good first request to adapt:

Send it, and Axe starts a run: one request being worked on, from start to result. Its activity appears under your message as it goes, and you can stop it at any time.

2. Check where the answer came from

Every figure in the answer carries a numbered marker. Select one to see the source, the exact location in it and the excerpt Axe relied on. The sources list under the answer shows them all.

When Axe cannot establish something, it says so and gives the reason rather than filling the gap. See Evidence and sources.

3. Keep going in the same Task

A Task remembers its conversation and files. Ask a follow-up, such as "add Taiwan and put the three markets in a table", without restating anything.

4. Edit the document

When a Task has a Word file, attached or produced, select it to open the editor beside the conversation. Type your own edits, or ask Axe for changes from the message box.

Some instructions should hold on every later edit, such as a house naming rule. Axe keeps those as standing instructions and shows them under Applying. See Editing Word documents.

5. Turn repeat work into an Agent

If you ask for the same kind of work every week or month, teach it to Axe once as an Agent. Agents are included in an eligible trial and a paid plan. A successful credit purchase also unlocks them. Open Agents, choose New Agent and describe how your team does the work. Attach your methodology or a past edition if you have one.

Axe drafts the method as a workflow beside the conversation: steps that do the work, checks that test it, decisions that choose a branch, approvals that wait for a person, and the result it delivers. Select any step to see what it uses and produces, then correct it in plain language.

We publish the LNG Buyer Brief every month for utilities in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Our methodology and the August edition are attached. Set up how we produce it.

I have set up the brief the way your methodology describes it: collect the month's evidence, roll the buyer balance forward, reconcile against customs data, then write in the format of the August edition. Your head of research approves every edition before it goes out.

Only signed SPAs count as contracted. Keep prospective capacity separate from operating supply.

Done. Volumes without a signed SPA now go to a pipeline table and never enter the contracted balance.

When the workflow looks right, Test it on real inputs, then Publish it. See Teaching an Agent.

6. Run your Agent

In any Task, type / in the message box and pick your Agent. It follows the published method on the files you attach, and pauses when a step needs your review.
